- Elite contestants will be expected to perform both compulsory (“SHITEI”) and free selection (“TOKUI”) Kata during the competition. Kata will be in accordance with the schools of Karate-do recognized by Karate Canada based on the Goju, Shito, Shoto, Wado and Chito systems. A schedule of the compulsory Kata is given in Appendix 7 of KO Kumite & Kata Rules of Competition..
- In the first and second round of an Elite Competition( Adult) , competitors must perform Shitei Kata which will be judged by score-cards. The top 4 competitors as chosen by the scores will perform a second kata which will be a tokui kata and will be judged by scorecards (however; the Referee Committee may decide to have the top four judged by flags when time permits). The highest scoring contestant of the first round will face the third highest scoring and the second highest scoring competitor will face the fourth highest. For the finals, the top two competitors of the second round shall compete with a third (different) kata which will be judged using flags.
- When performing Shitei Kata no variation is permitted.
The Japan Karate Federation (JKF) has produced a Shitei Kata book and the WKF have decided to adopt this book as the only manual for the shitei kata. This book is the only official source of what the Shitei kata are. The latest edition is called "Karatedo Kata Model for Teaching Shiteigata". The book number is ISBN4-583-03645-0. The videos posted below are guides as to what the Shitei are, they are not official sources, however; they are the closest representation available. If there are any differences noticed between these videos (and others) from what is in the book, one should be reminded that the book is the only official source as adopted by the W.K.F.
